With ample parking and a bright open interior our lovely Arundel practice offers convenient opening hours six days a week, including after-hours Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings by appointment (subject to change).

Sue Bower

(Senior Consultant Physiotherapist)

Sue was born and bred in Adelaide, South Australia with German parents, an older sister and younger brother.  She studied Physiotherapy at The University of South Australia, completing her Bachelor of Applied Science in Physiotherapy in 1989 and then later her Masters in 2000.  She started her Physiotherapy career in a private practice in North Adelaide in collaboration with orthopaedic and neurosurgeons who had a special interest in spinal surgery.

In 1998 Sue moved to Katherine in the Northern Territory with her husband and young family securing a position as the onsite Physiotherapist at the RAAF base in Tindal, an eye opening experience in many ways.  After three years a job transfer brought Sue to the Gold Coast where she has raised her three sons, all of whom are now adults on successful career paths in their own right and one who has begun his university journey in the last 2 years.  Bringing with her 14 years of experience as a Senior Clinical Physiotherapist at a private practice in Ashmore, Sue has been with the fantastic team at PhysioMax Arundel for 4 years now and is looking forward to assisting you with the management of your physical pain, injury and functional recovery.

Kristy Dernedde

(Senior Physiotherapist)

Kristy has completed a Bachelor Degree in Exercise Science and Masters Studies in Physiotherapy at Griffith University and she is a member of the APA.  Previous to this Kristy completed a Bachelor of Environmental Science.  Kristy has worked previously in private practice, providing a broad range of physiotherapy services including services to junior rugby union teams and swim squads.  Kristy is passionate about helping people feel the best they can and has recently become a new Mum who works part-time at PhysioMax Arundel.

Loren Caban

Loren graduated from Griffith University with a Master of Physiotherapy in 2015, having previously completed her Bachelor of Exercise Science (Pre Physiotherapy) in 2013. During her studies, Loren gained experience in areas including: complex musculoskeletal, orthopaedics, aged care, neurological rehabilitation, cardiorespiratory and hand therapy. Upon graduating, Loren commenced work in a predominantly musculoskeletal environment. She has since had further training in complex musculoskeletal cases and attended external courses for the Shoulder, Hip and lumbar spine and Dry Needling/acupuncture.

Loren has a strong sporting background and competed at state and national level for both indoor and outdoor Women’s Football (soccer). Recreationally she also plays oztag, performs regular strength training and can often be found at the beach. She has a keen interest in health and fitness and believes that we should practice what we preach.

Loren aims to implement the most current evidence based practice to empower individuals with regards to their condition and create individualised treatment programs to help them achieve their goals.

Philippa Gilbert

Philippa graduated in New Zealand and shortly moved to the Gold Coast thereafter.  Her passion over the years has been getting people better, developing friendships and pushing her own boundaries when patients are challenging.  She now has a fantastic Team to work with and she hopes you enjoy your PhysioMax experience.  She has been practicing physiotherapy for 40 years now!

Philippa's interests and endeavours include:-

  • Director and owner of PhysioMax.  This practice has a reputation for caring and getting results for our patients.

  • Philippa has 40 years experience as a private physiotherapist with a special interest in the spine.

  • McKenzie therapist to Credentialing level.

  • Philippa began treating anterior approach spinal surgical patients in 1998, there were no rehab programs in place at the time so over several years she created one.

  • Philippa created DeLoReS (Dynamic Life Recovery System), this international program offers patients a faster and more effective recovery from spinal surgery.  The program has expanded and now includes most spinal surgeries with 3 patient based books and home exercise DVDs.

  • Philippa was heavily involved in research at Bond University.  Her PhD research topic was "finding the optimal physiotherapeutic management of patients undergoing Anterior Spinal Surgery (ASS) including- lumbar total disc replacement (TDR), Anterior Lumbar Intervertebral Fusion (ALIF) or a combination (Hybrid) surgery".

  • Philippa has presented numerous papers and research papers locally and internationally.
